David Pelgrim, EMBA '04, Wins First Digital Camera Contest

As the Director of Global Support Services (GSS) for E.K. Fox & Associates, Ltd. in Fairfax, VA, David Pelgrim is a busy guy, but that doesn't stop him from keeping his profile on the Smith eAlumni Network up to date. Pelgrim is a 2004 graduate from Smith's Executive MBA program, and the winner of the first Smith eAlumni Network Canon PowerShot A620 digital camera contest. The second contest is taking place right now - all you need to do is update your personal profile on the network to become eligible to win the camera.

An active recruiter on campus, Pelgrim stays involved with Smith in many ways. "[I] instituted a leadership intern program for my organization which drew from the full-time MBA program, specifically the E to B [Engineers to Business] club," says Pelgrim. "I have contributed to the full-time MBA program as a guest speaker on leadership and human capital issues and participated as a venture capitalist in several MBA competitions at the request of my former EMBA instructors. I enjoy taking my family to Maryland Day when possible and had a great time attending the most recent day," says Pelgrim, whose wife, Delta, graduated from Smith in 1999.

Pelgrim says he works to maintain regular contact with his instructors from the EMBA program and though he doesn't visit the eAlumni Network as regularly as he would like to -- due to the pace of his working environment -- he values the features it offers and believes that keeping in contact with fellow alumni is important. "I definitely like the virtual workplace and team meeting features. After taking some time to cruise the Web site, I feel as though I have under-appreciated what it has to offer. While I find the classifieds need to be populated, I cannot help wonder how many other alumni are unaware of the site’s capabilities."

Pelgrim is a registered professional electrical engineer and earned his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from UM in 1991. He has worked for such employers as General Motors, United Parcel Service and even Charles E. Smith, where the school's benefactor Robert H. Smith is chairman. As creator and now director of the fastest growing P&L within the company, Pelgrim's managerial responsibilities include direct responsibility for all strategic and operational aspects of GSS as it continues to rapidly expand, including human capital, business development, client relationship management, process and policy, strategic planning and oversight of major projects valuing more than $50 million.

Outside the office, Pelgrim is a member of the UM Engineering Alumni Chapter Board of Directors, a member of the Vale United Methodist Church Church Council and Investment Committee. Professional memberships include the Illuminating Engineering Society North America (IESNA), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Airconditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). Pelgrim holds a Black Belt and was an instructor of Aikido. His hobbies include competitive shooting, high performance automobiles, scuba diving, skiing, metalworking, woodworking, and hand bells.

To contact David Pelgrim, look him up on Smith's eAlumni Network. While you're at it, make sure to update your personal profile so you can be eligible to win a Canon PowerShot A620 digital camera. The next contest ends on November 31, 2006.
